Primary School Program

The EcoMarines Primary School Program empowers students to become conservation leaders within their schools.

Our programs and events enable students and teachers to network with other education providers, connect with local businesses, and learn from industry experts. Through our resources, activities, competitions and events, our EcoMarines Ambassadors have the skills, the knowledge and the confidence to influence their local communities to make positive environmental behaviour change.

About the EcoMarine's Program

We focus on restoring waterways from our mighty inland rivers to our magnificent coastal waters and protecting their eco-systems and the wildlife that depend on them.
Each school appoints an EcoMarines teacher and four student ambassadors to lead environmental projects and activities within the school and local environment.

We provide resources to inspire the ambassadors to run engaging initiatives within the school and community.

There are also opportunities for ambassadors and teachers to attend events and to network with other schools and community members.

How it works

1. Getting Started!

We extend a warm invite for passionate teachers to register their schools for our free Primary School Program. As the EcoMarines Teacher, you will help to facilitate your school’s involvement and encourage students to take part, by organising meetings with Ambassadors and chaperoning students at events. You will also have access to our suite of online resources and a range of events to support you throughout the program.

2. Appoint EcoMarines Ambassadors

Each EcoMarines school appoints four student Ambassadors to become the environmental leaders of their schools. We recommend appointing students from Grades 4-6, but other students, including those from younger grades, are welcome to assist the Ambassadors as ‘Support Crew’.

3. Workshop Meeting

Upon completing selection of Ambassadors, our EcoMarines team would be delighted to meet them! This is a great opportunity to discuss their environmental project ideas for the year ahead and get them inspired”

4. Online Resources

You and your Ambassadors will have access to our suite of online resources, with everything you might need to help your school succeed with their sustainability journey. Examples include:
  • Step-by-step project and competition guides

  • Posters, videos, flyers, templates etc.

  • Case studies of other school’s projects

  • Links to third party organisations‘ resources and offerings

5. Events

Throughout the school year, EcoMarines host networking and education events, such as:
  • Training Day event for Ambassadors to network, hear from industry experts and participate in environmental workshops hosted at a special environmental location

  • Community events for EcoMarines friends and family

  • End-of-year celebration event to highlight the amazing work that our Ambassadors and teachers have accomplished

6. Celebrate and Repeat

Our programs run throughout each school year... and then we do it all over again. Schools appoint new ambassadors each year which helps with long term behaviour change and projects in schools.

"Through participation in this program I have seen my students grow both socially and academically and engage with the world around them. They have become environmentally aware, socially responsible and have grown in confidence.  I would highly recommend this program to other schools."
