Mini Marines Returns with Hands-on Composting Workshops!
The Mini Marines program has officially returned with two exciting and interactive composting workshops at Perfect Start Birkdale and Perfect Start Mary Street.
These workshops are designed to introduce environmental sustainability to young children with the opportunity to learn how composting can reduce waste, support their gardens and return valuable nutrients to the soil.

EcoMarines would like to shout out our partners at Composta Australia for their generous support! Each early learning centre received a brand-new Composta unit to install in their garden. With some guidance from the EcoMarines team, the young learners worked together in order to assemble and prepare their composters before getting their hands dirty!
During the workshops, the Mini Marines:
- Assembled their new composting units
- Added layers of mulch and potting mix
- Planted different seed in the soil after carefully poking small holes in it
- Introduced Red Wriggler worms into the middle of the composting unit
In addition, the Mini Marines also learned about “worm tea”, a nutrient reach liquid produced through the composting process. They explored how it can be collected and used to return valuable nutrients to the composting unit, as well as the surrounding garden areas.
To support the ongoing use of the composters, each early learning centre received a clear and detailed educational poster outlining which materials can and cannot be added to the units. This resource will help the educators and children continue practising responsible composting as part of their daily activities.

As both early learning centres are located within the Redlands region, this partnership played an important role in helping EcoMarines provide meaningful environmental education to young children in the area.
Through hands-on experiences such as these composting workshops, the Mini Marines program encourages children to develop positive environmental habits from an early age and empowers them to become active contributors to a more sustainable future.
