EcoMarines on Tour kicks off on a high note
The first EcoMarines on Tour took our Townsville Ambassadors on an environmental adventure, exploring various sustainability initiatives across the region.
EcoMarines’ brand-new and immersive event made its first stop at the Materials Recovery Facility, where our Ambassadors were received with a behind-the-scenes tour and activities led by the Townsville City Council Waste Team, learning all about the wonderful world of recycling!
Up next was the Port of Townsville where students got to explore the Port’s amazing array of operations first-hand and sit with the team to learn about how they consider the environment in everything they do.
Back on the bus after a busy morning, the Ambassadors travelled to the Strand Park for lunch and to recharge their batteries for what was to come.
The day ended on a high note with a visit to the environmental reserve, the Rowes Bay Wetland and Foreshore, where the students enjoyed a guided tour and engaged in activities conducted by the Townsville City Council Water Team.
At every stop, the Ambassadors were encouraged to fill out their activity workbook, which the EcoMarines Team specifically designed to encompass the aspects of the trip.
Adding more environmental knowledge to the EcoMarines on Tour experience were our partners from the Healthy Waters Partnership for the Dry Tropics, who oversaw the students and assisted them with the exercises, whilst also getting to chat about the findings from the 2025 Townsville Report Card.
